Teams that train together, work together

There is growing evidence that training together, in multi-professional teams, improves both team-working and clinical outcomes. No-one can predict which team members will be available when emergencies happen. This is why PROMPT training is based on the following principles:

  • train 100% of the maternity team
  • train in multi-professional teams
  • repeat the training annually

Effective team-working is central to improving clinical outcomes, through improving:

  • communication
  • team roles and leadership
  • situational awareness

The 2016 NHS England report ‘Better Births’ stressed that effective multi-professional teams trained together, thereby improving communication and developing a shared understanding of complex clinical problems. The report presented PROMPT training as an example of best practice in multi-professional obstetric training.
